Tips to make your hair shine and healthy

Posted in Unspecified
Pharmacy Store

Most of us have different textures of tresses. Beautiful hair must be shiny and healthy. Healthy, glossy, manageable hair reflects light and falls around the face beautifully, is the dream of every woman that is not so difficult to attain after all. The scalp may be oily and the hair will be dry for many people. A regular massage with fragrant oils such as patchouli, lavender and geranium will solve this problem effectively. A clean scalp ensures shining hair. Be careful while you take your head bath. Apply some natural oil to the scalp and massage for five minutes. People with oily hair experience more trouble to acquire a shiny hair than others.

The shiny and healthy hair is not only the result of outward applications. Rapid diet changing can affect your hair in bad ways. It can cause your hair to quit growing and fall. This also applies to diets without protein and rapid changes. You must drink enough water to acquire a healthy and shining hair. You can nourish your hair from inside also. The intake of a solution with one cup of green tea, three tea spoons of lemon juice and one teaspoon of cider will bring enough nutrients for your shining hair. To make sure that the hair that is forming under the surface of your scalp is healthy and growing it is important that your diet remains stable and full of proteins. Keep in mind that hair is eighty eight percent proteins. Proper hair care can postpone baldness as well. If you start hair care at a young age, you're more likely to have less hair problems at older ages. This is why hair care should be an important part of our lives.

Healthy shining hair makes you feel wonderful and is a great confidence booster. Vitamin A makes your scalp healthy and is good for your skin as well. It is found in vegetables especially carrots. Vitamin B and C for hair growth and hair color. Vinegar rinse should not be used frequently as it may dry out your hair. Eating plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables - especially citrus fruits and tomatoes - will help you get folic acid. Whole grain and fortified grain products, beans, and lentils also contain folic acid. A diet for healthy hair should be rich in protein as hair consists of primarily protein. Proteins will give your hair more strength and will prevent it from breaking and splitting. Eat protein rich foods like fish, meat, milk, cheese and cereals.

Here are a few tips to make your hair shine and healthy:

1. Honey is good for skin and hair.
2. Heat activated shampoos and weekly deep conditioning for your hair keep them glossy.
3. Bring instant shine to your hair by lightly beating two eggs in milk and massaging them in your hair thoroughly. Rinse after five minutes.
4. Vinegar rinse should be used sparingly too or it may dry out your hair.
5. Cold water rinsing makes your hair look shinier as it closes and smoothens the hair cuticle.
6. You can use a finishing cr??me during and after blow-drying your hair.
7. A little vodka in your shampoo if used occasionally can make your thick hair shine instantly

New Insight Into The Genetics Of Brain Tumor Formation

"It has been suspected for decades that the short arm of chromosome 1 harbored one or more tumor suppressor genes because this region is deleted in a variety of tumors, including many neural crest-derived tumors. Our work suggests that KIFB{beta} is one such gene," explains Dr. Kaelin.

Neural crest-derived tumors include neuroblastomas and medulloblastomas, which are the most common malignant pediatric solid tumors, as well as paragangliomas (relatively rare tumors of the sympathetic nervous system) and melanomas, the deadliest form of skin cancer.

Under normal developmental conditions, neural crest cells respond to diminishing growth factor signaling by inducing apoptosis, via a pathway involving the enzyme EglN3. However, the acquisition of mutations that enable cells to avoid apoptosis under low growth factor conditions provide a growth advantage and an effective route to tumorigenesis.

In this issue, Dr. Kaelin and colleagues identify that the protein KIF1B{beta} mediates EglN3-induced neuronal apoptosis, and thus provides a protective effect against the development of neural crest-derived tumors.

Importantly, KIF1B{beta} is positioned on the region of chromosome 1p that is deleted in a number of neural crest-derived tumors. The Kaelin group demonstrated that the supplementation of 1p-deleted neuroblastoma cancer cells with KIF1B{beta} protein is sufficient to restore apoptosis and identified inactivating point mutations in neural crest-derived tumors. They also showed that partial reduction of KIF1B{beta} - but not complete loss - confers protection against apoptosis, perhaps explaining why most 1p deleted tumors still retain the other KIF1B{beta} allele in its normal form.

While further research is needed to delineate the mechanism by which KIF1B{beta} induces apoptosis, this work opens up several avenues for investigation. For example, EglN3 is an oxygen-dependent enzyme that responds to a variety of signals and can be modulated with drug-like molecules. Dr. Kaelin points out that "an intriguing possibility is that an increase in EglN3 activity is responsible for the spontaneous regressions frequently observed in neonates who present with Neuroblastoma (so-called Stage 4S Neuroblastoma). Perhaps, in time, we can mimic this with EglN3 agonists."

How To Find Out If Your Cosmetic Surgeon Is Board-Certified

Posted in Unspecified
Pharmacy Store

Copyright (c) 2008 Dr. Robert Kenevan

A board-certified cosmetic surgeon can't guarantee perfect results, but there is nothing that can replace the education and experience of a surgeon who has devoted their life to improving yours.

Patients are advised to find a doctor who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS), the only board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties to certify a surgeon in plastic surgery of the face and of the entire body. Certification by the ABPS is one of the highest accomplishments for a plastic surgeon because it means that the surgeon has formal training in an accredited plastic surgery residency program and is required to maintain their certification through an extensive on-going training and certification.

About American Board of Plastic Surgery:

The American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) qualifies a surgeon to perform both body and facial procedures. The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) which is expressly designed to provide public protection through quality control in medical education states the "ABPS is the only one of the 24 ABMS member boards providing certification in the entire field of plastic and reconstructive surgery from head to toe."

If your surgeon is ABPS-certified, they will have:

*BACHELOR'S DEGREE- Usually Pre-Med or Biology, but not required to be.

*MCAT- A 6 hour exam to get into Medical School.

*MEDICAL DEGREE-"MD"-4 years of med-school and passing the Boards (a 2 day/12 hour exam) Part I and Part II (another 2 day/12 hour exam).

*Upon graduating medical school, one is considered an "MD," but can only practice in a residency program until they become a licensed physician.

*RESIDENCY- "On the job training" of at least three years.

*Five to seven years are required for American Board of Plastic Surgery certified plastic surgeons.

*LICENSED PHYSICIAN -After completing 1 year of residency and passing Boards Part III, then they are considered a General Practitioner or "GP". A GP has not had any training in surgery, no less plastic surgery.

*CANDIDATE MEMBER (a.k.a. BOARD ELIGIBLE)- One has completed the required training in plastic surgery residency and has been in [private] practice for at least two years.*

*APPROVED SURGICAL TRAINING- in plastic surgery and the surgeon has successfully completed extensive written and oral examination testing in the entire field of plastic and reconstructive surgery of the entire body.

*BOARD CERTIFICATION-Passing certification is not required for any doctor to practice medicine, but is important when finding a good physician and determining if one is trained to be a specialist, such as a plastic surgeon.

To verify a surgeon's certification status, contact either of these organizations: The American Board of Plastic Surgery or The American Board of Medical Specialties. Verifying the status of your cosmetic surgeon is one of the fist steps you should take when doing your cosmetic surgery research.

Varicose Veins ?????“ Vitamins for Varicose Veins

Posted in Unspecified
Pharmacy Store

Varicose veins are enlarged veins (blood vessels) close to the skin's surface. Any vein may become varicose, but the veins most commonly affected are those in the legs and feet, mainly due to standing and walking, which increases the pressure in the veins in the lower body.

Varicose veins can appear anywhere in the body but most often affect legs and feet. Although they can be painful and disfiguring, they are usually harmless. When inflamed, they become tender to the touch and can hinder circulation to the point of causing swollen ankles, itchy skin, and aching in the affected limb.

Many people with varicose veins also have spider veins, which are enlarged capillaries. Spider veins may be caused by the pressure from blood in varicose veins, but the cause is generally thought to be hormonal factors that are not yet understood. A hormonal cause would explain why spider veins most commonly occur in women, particularly during pregnancy.

Varicose and spider veins can appear anywhere, but most often appear on the legs and in the pelvic area. Most varicose veins develop near the surface of the skin. Varicose veins are abnormal, dilated blood vessels caused by a weakening in the vessel wall. They may appear as swollen, twisted clusters of blue or purple veins.

Veins contain one-way valves every few inches to help the blood return to the heart against gravity. If these valves leak, then the increased pressure prevents the blood from draining properly. The valves may leak and fail because of previous vein disease, eg thrombophlebitis, pressure on the veins in the pelvis from pregnancy or other causes of raised pressure within the abdomen.

Symptoms of varicose veins
Tiredness, burning, throbbing, tingling or heaviness in the legs
Itching around the vein
Swollen legs
Muscle cramps, soreness or aching in the legs
Discolored, peeling skin; skin ulcers; and constant rather than intermittent pain are signs of severe varicose veins.
Vitamins for Varicose Veins

Vitamin K is important for both blood heath and bone growth, and is known to aid coagulation of blood. This important vitamin is found in many food forms such as broccoli, mayonnaise, and parsley. Bioflavonoids are found in deep red food items such as raspberries, strawberries, wine, and grapes. Bioflavoniods are important varicose vein vitamins because they are thought to strengthen the cell walls of the veins and capillaries.

Vitamin C and Vitamin E will help with blood circulation and strengthening the walls of veins so that this condition does not worsen. Other vitamins that are recommended are antioxidants. These vitamins for varicose veins will aid in the reduction and stop the worsening of these veins by keeping oxygen from reacting with other chemicals in the body, which can reduce swelling in varicose veins.

Vitamin P is one of the most proven vitamins to help with this condition, and can be found in the skin of fruits such as grapes, berries, and apples. Vitamins for varicose veins may not produce the results that surgery or injections can, but will do wonders to help reduce the appearance of varicose veins and to help keep them from getting worse.

Vitamin B6 an essential vitamin that is required by the body to properly metabolize proteins and carbohydrates. It has also been shown by clinical research to be important in preventing plaque and lesions in blood vessels. Vitamins for varicose veins may not produce the results that surgery or injections can, but will do wonders to help reduce the appearance of varicose veins and to help keep them from getting worse.
